They usually try to give you placement according to your requirement. Some of the organizations may offer you with accommodations either at a negligible cost or with some discounts. Some of the organizations also arrange for your air ticket.

How do they function?

Each volunteer organization is unique. Each of them functions in their own way. Some of them function by communicating with the host countries or the other charitable organizations. While others may not have any contact with the host countries. Almost all of them work for different projects rather than placing volunteers simply.
